Tools to help with Sermon Preparation

When I first started preaching, I'd often get overwhelmed. I'd have a printout of the passage in front of me, sometimes even in the original language and several translations if it was particularly complicated. At least two commentaries. Maybe a reference book or two about a particular subject. In short, I often needed a bigger desk!

Now, I just have my tablet or my laptop . Let me share a little secret that's been a game-changer for me in sermon prep: Logos Bible Software. Crafting sermonsisn't easy - and Logos doesn't change the power or the challenge of the Word. However with Logos, it's become a whole lot smoother. Let me walk you through why I love it

Why Logos Bible Software?

  1. Building My Personal Library: Imagine having a massive library of biblical resources right at your fingertips. That's what Logos offers. From commentaries to lexicons, it's all there. For example, last week I was preparing a sermon on forgiveness, and within minutes, I had access to various perspectives from renowned theologians, all within Logos.

  2. Finding Gems in Seconds: Ever had that sinking feeling when you can't find the perfect quote or insight you know is buried somewhere in your books? With Logos, that's a thing of the past. Its search function is like having a personal research assistant.

  3. Tailoring My Study Process: No two preachers are the same, right? I'd pity the preacher who prepares as i do! That's why I love Logos' customizable workflows. Whether I'm starting with exegesis or diving straight into sermon outlining, Logos adapts to my rhythm. Last month, I experimented with a new study approach for Easter and our Lent courses, and Logos made it a breeze to organize my thoughts and insights.

  4. Seamless Integration: Ever struggled with transferring your research into your sermon slides or manuscript? I used to until I discovered Logos' integration with Proclaim. I haven't managed to get this up and running at church yet, but a friend in ministry has and he's told me it's revolutionary. Prepare your sermon from home, arrive at church to find the slides ready to go - and then have your home group material published straight from the sermon as well! Not only that but you can write the sermon on your home machine or Office PC, and then have your notes or script appear straight onto your phone or tablet. It even includes a handy timer when you go into 'preaching mode', where the tablet can act as an auto-queue. Brilliant! (and handy for both my congregation and for me)

  5. Sermon Prep on the Go: Life as a minister is busy, isn't it? That's why I love that Logos also has a brilliant mobile app. Whether I'm waiting at the dentist or catching a train, I can sneak in some study time. Last week, while waiting for a meeting, I could sit and work through a particularly complicated verse using Logos' language tools, working through diagrams of the sentence until it made sentence even to me!

So there you have it, my friend - With its vast library, lightning-fast search, customizable workflows, seamless integration, and mobile accessibility, Logos has revolutionized how I prepare and deliver sermons. I highly recommend giving Logos a try. Trust me; you won't look back. Are you using Logos - how have you found it? Are there any tips and tricks you have? Let us know in the comments below
